Having already teased us with two songs from their upcoming sophomore album (“Replicate” and “Deconstruction”) we now know when we’ll get to hear the rest.
Fanfarlo’s second album is called Rooms Filled With Light and comes out on February 27th in most of the world, Febraury 28th in North America on Atlantic/Canvasback. All that the band has to say n their official website about the release of the record at the moment is “This record is a nuclear submarine falling from space. We can hardly wait for impact.”
The press release gives us some more tangible information about the sound. A quote from violinist Cathy Lucas informs us that “the guitars are now electric instead of acoustic, while synths and samplers have emerged in place of mandolins and glockenspiels… We wanted to figure out what new things were possible with the tools we were using. This time there is more of an emphasis on patterns, repetition and hypnotic atmospheres. We were trying to achieve more light and dark, while maintaining the subtlety and elegance.”
Before the album, Fanfarlo are putting out “Deconstruction” as a single with a 15-minute companion piece called “Reconstruction” as the b-side. They say of “Reconstruction” that it is “a 15-minute meditation on a pop song and what would happen if it just continued straight into a black hole, got torn into pieces and its component parts all re-emerged in a strange corner of the universe, some reconfigured into a bizarre new constellation and some completely transformed into a different beast altogether and then dipped in ink.”
It definitely sounds like they’ve been doing some trippy shit while recording. Check out the cover art for the “Deconstruction” single below.
