British expat Fairhazel is now based in Los Angeles, and his new single “Liquid Crystal” sounds a lot like a song that could have graced Laurel Canyon during a Crosby, Stills & Nash rehearsal back in 1968. In short, the song’s great melody and rich harmonies are a welcome addition to your fall playlist.
It’s astonishing that Fairhazel could create this gem not in the studio but in the midst of a minimalist, Woody Guthrie-style journey. The artist recalls, “Two months ago I got rid of everything I own, down to what fits in my car, and my partner and I left Los Angeles to start a new nomadic life on the road, playing shows nearly every night all over the country (soon all over the world). As I self produce/mix/master all my own stuff, this meant minimizing the studio into a backpack. This is the first track I made with those new limitations which turned out to be freeing. It’s a story about taking a chance for the person you love.”
This fall, Fairhazel will play LA hotspots like The Troubadour on a West Coast tour supporting Blanco White. This modern-day Graham Nash has a bright future indeed.
