emerson battles insomnia on “Counting Sheep”

There have been countless hit songs written about love-fueled insomnia, and the new one from New Zealand artist emerson might be the best. “Counting Sheep” is a hook-laden classic with an infectious chorus that has a real shot at being the breakout single of the autumn.

Even on sleepless nights, Emma “emerson” Wagner and her cowriter Harry Charles know how to craft a verse/build/chorus song that truly tantalizes.

“‘Counting Sheep’ is a song I wrote earlier this year with Harry before he moved to LA,” says emerson. “It’s about not being able to sleep because you are not over the one you love. Thoughts of them just keep you up at night. I was so sleep-deprived at the time, so sleep was very much on my mind when I wrote it.”

In December (which is summertime in New Zealand), emerson will play the Rhythm & Vines festival, headlined this year by Kid Cudi and Turnstile.
