It’s that time of year. Not only are music nerds compiling their “end of year lists”, but they’re also making lists about who’ll we’ll all be talking about this time next year. Ellie Goulding, a blonde, 21 year old pop starlet from Herefordshire, is apparently one of them.
Goulding is following a well-trodden path for young ,female, British pop singers. She has just won the Critics’ Choice Award at the 2010 Brit Awards, given to the best new British Act expected to break through in 2010, with weirdwoman Florence + the Machine and smoky soulstress Adele as her antecedents.
From what we can gather, Goulding’s discography to date includes one single, and another demo recorded with fellow British pop upstart Frankmusik. So this award, and the subsequent hype it will bring to Goulding, might appear slightly premature. But then again, her single (“Under The Sheets”, currently out on Polydor) is quite good as far as pop goes. Listen to the song on Goulding’s myspace.
