Dermabrasion unleash unhinged noise pop frighter “Magic Missile”

Toronto upstarts Dermabrasion kick off 2024 with a slab of somnambulistic noise pop called “Magic Missile”. It’s the perfect anthem for all you ghoulish sleep deprived goths skulking the grubby corners of the city at some ungodly hour. With guitar bursts akin to a barbed-wire hailstorm and a stabbing, skeletal rhythm section, Dermabrasion sound like some macabre approximation of Siouxsie & the Banshees going on an acid binge with Locust Abortion Technician-era Butthole Surfers.

“Magic Missile” is accompanied by a likewise frightful lo-fi video directed by Shelby Wilson, depicting odd customers wearing all sorts of funky masks, entertaining the thought of what The Purge might have been like if Harmony Korine had directed it.

“Magic Missile” gives us another look at Dermabrasion’s upcoming debut LP Pain Behaviour, out via Hand Drawn Dracula on January 26 2024. You can preorder it here.

For now, check out “Magic Missile” below or on streaming outlets.
