Pennsylvania musician Dee Dasher isn’t in the business of easy answers. She’s willing to put in the work to try to understand the curious movements of the world around her, but her music allows for multiple perspectives and filters the ache and joy of her surroundings through the gentle lens of indie-pop’s more folky impulses. Don’t be fooled, though, as her work is equally adept at bristling and flexing at any shortsighted dismissal of its tumbled melodic spaces. There’s a shifting emotional resonance which grounds her various sonic adventures, granting her the leeway to approach these experiences and memories in ways which are both intimate and universal.
She is getting ready to release her debut album, Conscious Home, on September 26, having already shared “Dreamscape” and “Time’s a Killer“. Today, she offers another glimpse into the album’s kaleidoscopic point of view with “Out Here”, a track that channels the rhythmic effervescence common to girl groups of the ’60s while leaning into the bounding indie pop of artists like Allo Darlin and First Aid Kit. Dasher’s voice is an ever-present force, weaving effortlessly between clacking percussion and countless undercurrents of shimmering guitar tones. It’s both a throwback intent on honoring her influences and a confident adaptation of those same sounds. She creates this dreamlike world, a welcoming collage of pop atmospheres beckoning for further exploration. She pays tribute to those people who believed in her even when she couldn’t see the best in herself — she pushes back against the constant daily grind, finding purpose in bringing some small illumination to those around her.
“‘Out Here’ is for the dreamers running on caffeine, heart, and sheer will,” explains Dasher. “It’s the sound of being bone-tired but knowing deep down—it’s gonna work out. Built on warm acoustic guitar, driving rhythm, and stacked harmonies, this indie folk-pop anthem is equal parts gratitude and grit.“
