Daphni sweeps us off our dancing feet with “Cloudy”, announces new album

Dan Snaith, the mastermind behind Caribou, has announced a new album under his producer/DJ alter ego Daphni; it’s called Cherry and arrives on October 7 through his own Jialong imprint. He recently shared the title track “Cherry” and has now given us a second bite in the form of “Cloudy”, saying:

“The essence of this one is keeping it aloft – like occasionally nudging a balloon that’s only just heavier than air to keep it afloat. For something so buoyant, I’m surprised how much it bangs in a club.”

Indeed, the low end of “Cloudy” is whisper thin; bass synth pattering around and the drums tropically light rather than slamming, all in service of the hypnotic piano line that flows through the track, subtly morphing in texture. The result is a silken tech-house wonder; it strikes as one of those songs you’d hear in the middle of an hours-long dance session, when you’re magnetised to the dancefloor, and it comes wafting in over the speakers, providing an immediate uplift – as if your body is suddenly weightless and gliding. It’s a refuel moment, giving your body and mind an injection of bliss to carry it through the next few hours of movement.

Check out “Cloudy” below or find it on streaming platforms.

Daphni’s new album Cherry comes out on October 7 through Jiaolong (pre-order/save). You can find Daphni/Dan Snaith through his Caribou accounts on Bandcamp, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
