Craig Finn going solo now, to begin new Hold Steady album in September

The Hold Steady are known for their prolific output. Since 2004, the band has released five full-length albums, two live collections, and tons of strong covers for compilations and b-sides. So, with the band planning some tour dates in August and September, frontman Craig Finn has holed up at a friend’s house in Austin to record a solo album, according to Pitchfork.

Finn has started a Tumblr (and then again, who hasn’t?) to track the progress of his solo endeavors, which you can visit here, as well as a twitter. The most recent post reveals that Finn is working with Mike McCarthy on the solo project, but there does not appear to be much information as far as expected completion or release dates.

Just as intriguing, is the tidbit that The Hold Steady will begin writing their next album in September, which would probably indicate a 2012 release. Check the tourdates for The Hold Steady below.
