Yep, it is here. And it is stacked.
Obviously, the headliners are the focal point of a first glance. And it appears there are four! Kings of Leon will end the day on Friday and Arcade Fire on Saturday, but Sunday will feature both The Strokes and, the biggest surprise of the headliners, Kanye West.
The lineup is one of the youngest I can remember, with no major classic rock act sticking out, and Duran Duran being the largest of the nostalgia trips. Radio listeners will be treated to a load of more mainstream acts, including The Black Keys, Neon Trees, Brandon Flowers, Mumford & Sons, and Jimmy Eat World.
Who are we most excited to see? Death From Above 1979 is one that jumps off the page, seeming to come out of left field (not to be confused with Leftfield, who will also be there) for a reunion of sorts. The National, Bright Eyes, Animal Collective, Crystal Castles, Interpol, Robyn, Lauryn Hill, Sleigh Bells, Broken Social Scene, One Day As A Lion, PJ Harvey, Cut Copy and Ratatat are just some of the major bloggy bands to get a big font on the poster.
On the little font side of things, some of the acts we will be hoping to watch include Warpaint, The Tallest Man On Earth, Phosphorescent, CSS, MEN, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, The Henry Clay People, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, Delorean, The Morning Benders, and so many more. Plus there are the big dance acts, like The Chemical Brothers, Boys Noise, Sasha, Bloody Beetroots, Empire Of The Sun and a ton of shit I have no idea about.
Surprises? The New Pornographers, Big Audio Dynamite, Flogging Molly, The London Suede, The Presets, Here We Go Magic, Glasser, and OFF! were all absent from many expected lineups.
And lastly, who didn’t show up. Sadly (for me), there will be no lovely harp tunes from Joanna Newsom on the polo fields, no robotic dance songs from Daft Punk, no anthems from Coldplay, no cancer-comebacks from Beastie Boys, and no indescribable tunes from Godspeed You Black Emperor. I was really surprised to not see up and comers The Naked and Famous on this poster. Other ones that seemed likely: Gary Numan, OMD, Of Montreal, Pixies, Snoop Dogg, Black Dub, Fang Island, Boris, Tom Tom Club, Archers Of Loaf, How To Dress Well, How To Destroy Angels, Japandroids, Abe Vigoda, DJ Shadow, Blonde Redhead, Big Boi, Pulp, Wavves, Mogwai, Fleet Foxes, Four Tet, No Age, Glassjaw and on and on. But remember, Coachella will probably add another ten acts or so, so don’t give up on your favorites yet.
