He may still have us waiting on his proper sophomore album, but even without it, Brent Faiyaz has had quite a 2021. Collaborating with everyone from Baby Keem to Tyler, the Creator – to not even mention his most visible moment to date, alongside Drake for The Neptunes produced “Wasting Time” – it continues to feel like the world is Faiyaz’ for the taking. All he needs to do is reach out and grab it.
As we continue to linger in anticipation, he’s released his latest single, the nearly eerily calm “Mercedes”, a song which seems to drift between shadows, slowly sliding the listener into the sensual world of Faiyaz’ creation, one in which apathy is erected as an emotional shield.
