Sub Pop has one hell of a roster of bands, but I doubt that any of them are more productive than Blitzen Trapper, who have released something every year since 2007, and are now making it five in a row with American Goldwing, which arrives this September 13th.
Judging from the clip of the music that we get in the trailer (seen/heard below) this could be the rootsiest and most earthy sounding Blitzen Trapper have ever been, which fits in with what singer Eric Earley says of the album. Earley describes the album as his attempt to “evoke a true American nostalgia” and the sound is Blitzen Trapper “letting [their] loves and early influences hang out for all to see.”
As a more direct description of the sound Earley says thast American Goldwing features “the hard guitar rock and country picking of our younger years mixed with glimmers of our usual space-aging technology and pawn shop Casios. Heavy guitar riffs and blasting drum fills live side-by-side with plucking banjos, wailing harmonicas and muddy slide guitars.”
Check out the trailer below for a hint of what to expect, but hopefully we’ll get a single soon enough, or you can catch them on tour this summer. Initial dates are at the bottom, with more to be added soon.
