Beth Jeans Houghton is a singer-songwriter from Newcastle in the north of England. She writes music akin to fellow countrywoman Laura Marling, but Houghton possesses a richer, more classical voice. So far she has only released on EP called Hot Toast vol. 1, which came out in 2009. She is now proud to announce her signing to Mute Records and plans to release her full length debut later in the year. The album was produced by Ben Hillier who has previously worked with the likes of Blur, Doves, Depeche Mode and Elbow.
As a token of appreciation for our patience she’s giving away a new track called “Dodecahedron.” The song flows utterly magnificently from the stripped down verses to the orchestral chorus, and Houghton’s voice lofts gracefully between the two sounds tying it all together. If this is an indication of what’s to come then this could be one of the debut albums of the year.
