Benjamin John Power is best known as one half of the experimental ambient duo Fuck Buttons, but this summer he is going solo as Blanck Mass. The self-titled album is largely influenced by the likes of Ennio Morricone and Carl Sagan, and is said to be “themed around cerebral hypoxia and the beautiful complexity of the natural world.”
The album combines field recordings with analogue synth and heavily manipulated electric guitar. Fans of Fuck Buttons will find plenty to love on Blanck Mass; and fans of any kind of ambient music will find a lot of beauty within the ten tracks.
The album is set for official release through Mogwai’s Rock Action Records on June 28th. You can download a track from the album called “Land Disasters” below. You can head to Blanck Mass’s Bandcamp page to read a lot more about the sound and inspiration for the album.
