Babe Rainbow urge us to escape the indoors on the jaunty “Smash The Machine”

Australian quartet Babe Rainbow released their album Changing Colours in May this year, but they’ve made a quick return with a new song called “Smash The Machine”.

While the new song is certainly anti-technology, it’s not by any means angry or castigating. As usual, Babe Rainbow supply a surfeit of chilled out vibes, guitar melodies wafting over the air like a warm breeze as the drums lightly tumble onwards with the boundlessness of an over-excited puppy. Vocally, “Smash The Machine” matches this lightheartedness with some quick quips about the pernicious nature of technology and encouragement to “curl your toes around the world”. Of course, it’s a lot easier for Babe Rainbow to tell us to get away from our phones, TVs and fax machines and go outside considering it’s summer in Australia right now, but when listening to “Smash The Machine”, it does suddenly feel like the sun’s warmth is caressing your skin.
