Animal Collective mixes new album, serious speculation begins

These guys will fuck you up

In a recent article with Mix Online, Atlanta based producer Ben H. Allen  has announced that he is mixing the new Animal Collective album. Allen came up in the late 90s engineering NYC-hip hop and later moving the Dirty South movement. This should be getting you somewhat excited. Mono effects have become somewhat of a trademark for him. Animal Collective apparently wanted a really aggressive low end on the new album, and they believed Allen was the go-to guy. The band and Allen will be mixing the album at Chase Park Transduction Studios, located in Athens, Georgia.

The band and Allen are trying experiments with the recording, trying to find the “live” sound the samples don’t have. They want to add ambience to these samples to not make them seem like samples, but more like a band playing. Best part of all of this is this one quote, in which Allen describes what he and the band want the record to sound like.

“The whole vibe is to have this really tight and punchy low end, like a New York hip-hop record, and then this really washy Beach Boys–style vocal approach. We went and bought a bunch of spring reverbs and cheap reverbs on eBay that we’re going to use for vocals, a lot of which are triple- or quadruple-tracked.”

We here at 130 BPM, and all of you across the universe better be going nuts after reading that. So after reading that, if you’re clueless, after the jump, we have videos of the new songs to make you excited.

Here are some great live tracks,
