Combining influences such as Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, and Sam Cooke, Ghanaian-Canadian singer Kae Sun (born Kwaku Darko-Mensah Jr.) digs into the heritage of folk, soul, and protest music on his sophomore album Afriyie. Following up his 2009 record Lion On A Leash, Kae Sun once again takes a multi-genre approach to his music and finds rejuvenation in the soul and spirit of his inspirations. “I’ve settled into a sound and vocal delivery that feels very true to me,” says Kae of Afriyie. “The magic of it all is when the listener can feel the emotion and intent without being able to dissect the experience.” And on his latest record, the music seems to take on a life of its own. All pent up emotions and heartfelt sermonizing, the songs on Afriyie bubble over with the life of everyday experiences.
Beats Per Minute is pleased to premiere the album stream for Kae Sun’s sophomore record Afriyie.
