Boston natives and electro-pop duo The Bynars know exactly where they reside in the long line of 80’s rock and synth-pop artists. Following in the footsteps of bands like Devo and Ultravox, with a splash of Gary Numan’s oddly effective vocal stylings, the band churn out blissfully self-aware music that never caves in under its own influences. The songs on their sophomore album, X vs. X (out September 17th), exude a confidence and creative drive that completely disproves any notion of the sophomore slump. Singer/guitarist Matt Jatkola and drummer Mike Champ have rearranged the bits and pieces that are commonly associate with the genres within which they work and have assembled something redolent of their origins while also exhibiting refreshingly original structure and a glistening pop-centric composition. Swirling low-end bass and amorphous guitar lines meet and repel into slowly circling synths that spin and contort into memorable melodies and lush soundscapes that wouldn’t feel out of place on the best 80’s station you’ve never heard.
Beats Per Minute is pleased to premiere the album stream of The Bynars’ upcoming record, X vs. X.
