Ace of Wands conjure a Baroque fantasy on “World of Women”

Ace of Wands are here to greet the new year with a glimpse into what 2025 may hold for them. Written during the band’s residency at the Banff Center for Arts and Creativity in Alberta, Canada, “World of Women” is a gauzy, Baroque waltz, anchored by lead singer Lee Rose’s classical violin. It possesses a dirge-like quality, an orchestral lamentation for self and for personal agency. The strings sway back and froth, a hypnotic dance of melody and instinct that captures the capriciousness of emotion and the frailty of connection. The band seems to revel in this hypnagogic state, drifting somewhere between fantasy and reality, on the periphery of our subconscious, eager to move forward but also finding comfort in the familiarity of its own headspace.
