If Phoenix’s new album, Bankrupt!, felt lacking in some regards, then their new video for “Trying To Be Cool” (and “Drakkar Noir”) feels like it makes up for everything. Watch as the band are filmed around a special effects studio, as motorcycles are revved up, cannons are fired, dance troupes are called upon, and moustaches are picked. The simple fact is, though, that you should watch it just to see lead singer Thomas Mars produce a dove from his hand and then go on to play table tennis by himself like a friggin’ master.
