For their sophomore record, Toronto indie rockers Dinosaur Bones packed up and headed down to Texas, where they hooked up with producer John Congelton (St. Vincent, The Walkmen, Explosions In The Sky) and Dine Alone Records. The resulting collection of songs, titled Shaky Dream, finds the band delving deeply into rhythmic oceans of self-reflection, bombastic dark pop, and ear-tugging hooks. At once challenging and inclusive, the band pushed themselves out of their comfort zone, literally and figuratively, and have come away with some of the most memorable pop songs you’re likely to hear this year.
Their latest single, “Sleepsick,” blends singer/guitarist Ben Fox’s soaring vocals with the shifting, anthemic indie production common to bands like The National or The Walkmen. The thick, chugging guitar wail and chest thumping percussion weave seamlessly around the band’s dynamic rhythm section to highlight the precision and sheer, unfiltered exuberance they bring to their music. Dinosaur Bones may find comfort in the details of everyday life, but on “Sleepsick,” they’re aiming for something a lot higher.
Beats Per Minute is pleased to premiere the latest track, “Sleepsick,” from Dinosaur Bones’ upcoming record Shaky Dream.
Shaky Dream is due out August 6th via Dine Alone Records.
