Mikal Cronin’s self-titled debut album from 2011 was a bolt out of the blue that came as part of the wave of garage rock from the West Coast that has been prevalent for a little while now and seems nowhere near slowing down. So it’s a perfect time for Cronin to return with a new album, entitled MCII, which he recorded almost entirely himself aside from a few sparing guest contributions.

Quite a bit has changed for Cronin since his debut, his notoriety has grown, he’s toured relentlessly with Ty Segall, and for this new record he has signed to Merge Records. As Cronin simply puts it “I was presented with a whole new slew of problems and situations that I was trying to work through.”

MCII confronts these new problems and situations head on, as can be heard on our first taste of the record “Shout It Out,” which you can hear below.

MCII will be released on May 7th (and on the 13th in UK/Europe). Cronin has a handful of tour dates, which you can see below, but there are many to be added soon.

Tour dates:

Feb 23 Portland OR Dante’s
