Jordan Geiger has played in some of the best known indie bands of the past decade. Before forming Hospital Ships, he played in The Appleseed Cast, Shearwater, and Minus Story and drew inspiration from artists like The Zombies, ELO, and The Flaming Lips. He has recently recorded a song for Savannah, GA-based label Graveface Records, alongside other notable artists such as Xiu Xiu, Haley Bonar, and Advance Base, for their inaugural Graveface Charity Subscription Series. This song comes from the second volume in this series of charity compilations from different artists who each pick a specific charity to receive the proceeds from their particular 7″. The first volume included songs from Mount Eerie, Serengeti, and Dosh, and subsequent releases feature Graveface familiars such as Whirr, Dreamend, and The Marshmallow Ghosts, as well as artists like Jonathan Meiburg (of Shearwater), The Appleseed Cast, and Mike Watt, who have graciously given of their time and effort to help worthy causes.
Beats Per Minute is pleased to be able premiere the new song “Mary of Quito” from Hospital Ships and to be able to help raise awareness for the Ballard Community Services program in Lawrence, KS–the charity that Geiger personally chose–which provides affordable high quality early education and essential basic life assistance to families and individuals in need. Head over to the Graveface Records website to order your copies of this single, as well as others in the series.
