Damon Albarn is rarely, if ever, one for clarity. Hence, when he more or less announced the end of Blur and Gorillaz, his more wisened fans rode out the ensuing mourning with a calm skepticism. Since then, he’s both said the band’s working on new material and continued his “it’s over” line of thinking. Meanwhile, the band’s essentially thrown their hands in the air with a “whacha gonna do, it’s Damon” expression, costumary to them by now.
Of course, Albarn’s only making matters murkier. Except, this time, he’s moving in the right direction. Last night, performing in London, the singer debuted a new Blur track. Perhaps all the drama is simply for buzz, as Albarn declared the song would release in “a few weeks”, which would seem to suggest the band is more unified than one might believe.
