One of the bands I was introduced to and subsequently impressed by at SXSW was Chicago rockers Cains & Abels. In fact, they were the last band I saw at the festival, so the fact that they made a positive impression upon my weary ears and body says a lot. I said in my review that they simultaneously reminded me of Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth and Lower Dens. Having now heard their album, My Life Is Easy, I certainly still get those vibes, but the band has plenty of their own to offer too.
The album comes out tomorrow through Whistler Records, but today we have the pleasure of premiering one of its highlights, “Money.” The song manages to balance the sour with the sweet by backing up the harsh vocals and twanging guitar nicely with twinkles of keyboards and female backing vocals, bringing together a powerhouse of a song. Check it out below.
The band are also participating in Record Store Day, releasing “Stay Home Tonight” on 7″.
