According to Rolling Stone, Apple’s iCloud service quietly launched its website yesterday and many aspects of the service are still shrouded in mystery. One aspect that is no longer unknown is just how much it will cost.
The first 5 GB of space will be free, with annual fees for additional storage coming in three tiers: $20 for 10 additional GB, $40 for an extra 20 GB and $100 for 50 more GB. This confuses me, though, as the tiers seem to all be charging the same rate. At least the storage tiers do not apply to content purchased through iTunes, which will be added to iCloud for free. This also indicates that iCloud is way too expensive to accommodate my music collection.
You can access the site here, but it is not expected to become fully functioning until later this year when iOS 5 is available for all Apple products.
