It’s always surprising to find a previously unreleased song from a long time after it was recorded (just look at that Isaac Brock track we posted a couple of days ago), and for Kevin Moyer, Elliott Smith’s close friend in his lifetime, it came as even more of a shock when he found this song while looking for a song to include on the upcoming charity compilation Live From Nowhere Near You, Vol. 2. You can read the whole interesting and heartfelt story of how the track was discovered, mixed and then replaced by an earlier version for the final compilation over at Pitchfork.
So, cutting to the end of the story, this version of the song – which it turns out is actually supposed to be entitled “The Real Estate” – will not appear on Live From Nowhere Near You, but if you’re big Elliott Smith fans like we are it’s definitely one to add to your collection. The three-disc charity compilation that features the superiorly recorded “The Real Estate” will be released on July 19th through Greyday Records.
