What reunion would you most like to see? For me, the answer is always Grandaddy, without hesitation. Well, only since Pavement reunited, but still, I really like Grandaddy. With three classic albums under their belt (Under The Western Freeway, The Sophtware Slump, and Sumday), Grandaddy seem just too good to not be together.
Well, this is not a story about a Grandaddy reunion, unfortunately. But, Grandaddy fans and newcomers alike will get a chance to revisit the glory days when Grandaddy reissues The Sophtware Slump on Universal/V2 on August 22nd this year. The collection promises to be two discs (no mention here of vinyl, but we can all hope), with the original album on the first and some extras, like non-album singles, b-sides, EP tracks, and unreleased demos for albums tracks “Hewlett’s Daughter” and “Beautiful Ground,” plus an unused version of “He’s Simple, He’s Dumb, He’s The Pilot.”
Jason Lytle had this to say about the reissue: “I’m pleased to acknowledge the reissue of The Sophtware Slump. All of this is occurring in honor of the approximate 11 year anniversary of The Sophtware Slump. Even more exciting (in my opinion) is the CD release of rarities, B-sides, and etc. material that came about during The Sophtware Slump period. Yes…..11 years. Much better than 10.”
