It’s been a long time coming but Radiohead will make their return to Glastonbury – as a full band – tonight, their first full performance since their headlining set of 2003. UK newspaper The Sun reports that all five members will play a slot on the Park Stage, hopefully not clashing with U2, who are the real headliners on the Pyramid Stage. The slot assigned to “Special Guests” is 8pm.
Organiser Emily Eavis had been teasing that she’d booked a headline-size secret band, but since last year Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood pulled the exact same stunt, playing a set mostly filled with Radiohead hits, the assumption had been that it would be Pulp.
However it is Radiohead again and this year all five return, for their first proper performance since releasing The King of Limbs in February, and their first gig since headlining Reading and Leeds in August 2009. If the BBC televise it (which we hope they will) it will be the first chance we get to see these new songs in their live form.
The band has also recently recorded a new episode of From The Basement wherein they played two new songs. “Staircase” was released last week, but “The Daily Mail” has not yet been aired, so there is a possibility that they will play it on the Park Stage, airing it publicly in full-band form for the first time (Thom has played it solo in the past).
