Though he is still touring with Damian Marley through the summer, Nas has begun looking toward the future and his tenth album. Well, not just looking. He has actually begun laying down some tracks.
In a talk with Billboard, Nas opened up about his state of mind while recording and the influence that the new generation of rap stars are having on him. “I just love what’s happening [in rap],” he says. “It threatens my position or makes me question what I’m going to do next. What impact do I want to have being in the business this long? It’s a challenge…scary, even.”
One of these “threatening” individuals is Odd Future’s soulful singer Frank Ocean, whom Nas will collaborate with on the still untitled and unscheduled album. Nas had the following to say about the Mr. Ocean: “Frank Ocean…he’s a new gust of wind, he’s young, he has so much to give the world…He just has so many great ideas.”
