Pixies planning new material

The Pixies have been touring for quite a number of years now, since reuniting in 2004 and touring the hell out of classic album Doolittle. But, the question has remained about whether the band would ever get around to hitting the studio again, as they obviously are getting along well enough and Black Francis never has had a shortage of creativity. Now, we have an answer.

In an interview with Spinner, Pixies drummer David Lovering stated that at the conclusion of the band’s current tour, they plan on “making something new.” Guitarist Joey Santiago added, “making a record will be in the forefront. We’ve definitely gelled as a unit and hopefully when we can all bury the hatchet – and we have – maybe we’ll go in there and hope for the best.”

A new Pixies album would be the first since 1991’s Trompe Le Monde, and their sixth album total. Stay tuned for more developments as they occur, but this statement of intent is pretty awesome news in of itself.
