As frontmen for established, though still slightly fringe-successful, indie groups, Nick Diamonds (Islands/The Unicorns) and Honus Honus (Man Man) don’t necessarily need to form a new band to find ears for their creative output. But after discovering a mutual love of doo wop and doomed love songs, the two singers decided to make a 7″ together with no major aspirations. Well, since the initial meeting, that 7″ has become a full-length, they added Modest Mouse’s Joe Plummer, signed to Sub Pop, and are currently starting a tour as support for Passion Pit. <breathes>
Named Mister Heavenly, the group has used their mutual music tastes to even form a new genre to classify their tunes on iTunes: Doom Wop. Yeah, we thought it was pretty funny, too. The album is due in 2011 but get a sampling at one of the west coast shows, which include a couple headlining dates, too.
Update: Their first show last night in Seattle featured Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim, Nick, George Michael Bluth) as the group’s bassist, and apparently this will continue at least for the remainder of the tour. (Pitchfork)
