L.A. artist Miss Machina (whose legal name is Ash Smith) has a Madonna-like knack for writing high-energy songs and creating equally inventive videos. Her new single “Rumors” is the first track from a debut EP dropping later this year.
Originally from Dallas, Miss Machina has extensive training in voice and musical theatre, which explains why her music packs such a jolt. In the “Rumors” video, Miss M plays multiple roles, including Marilyn Monroe, Lady Diana and Hillary Clinton. It’s a visual tour-de-force that proves she has the potential to follow Madonna and Lady Gaga to the silver screen some day. Despite all the fun, the video ends with a sobering epilogue you don’t want to miss.
Commenting on the new single, Machina says, “I wanted to highlight the fact that society utilizes women for entertainment, but is unable to really listen to them when it matters most.”
If the ensuing singles are as good as “Rumors”, Miss Machina could be one of the breakout stars of 2023.
