Kaien Cruz has been making moves. The queer South African artist deftly combines elements of R&B with Afropop, leading to a tantalizing, intoxicating mixture. Her songs are practically honey-coated, seeping into your ears and lodging there with ease and grace.
Her latest EP, BUFFERING…, is no exception. It may stick to a tidy, quick three tracks, but it makes an impact regardless. Arguable highlight “OTW” sways through a bubbling atmosphere, with Cruz tired of waiting on a lover. We’ve all felt that impatience when that someone is supposed to be on the way but keeps delaying, and the song taps into those feelings immediately.
