California based Ed Prosek and Italian artist Violetta Zironi are no strangers to blending their respective styles, but with their latest collaboration they’ve landed on something particularly special.
“Come What May” is disarming in its simplicity, one might even say purity: initially based around just soft guitar and their effortless harmonizing, the song seems to long for an era gone by, all the way back to the 50’s, one in which very few of us lived, but an all too easy time to want to escape to for a few precious moments, especially given the sullen state of our current world.
Gradually, dramatic strings enter the picture, giving the feeling of a soundtrack to an imaginary classic film. Speaking on the track, Zironi shares, “Come What May is a sweet, simple, honest confession of the hopefulness of true love. This was a feeling both Ed and I could relate to in our own personal lives, and so we thought what better way to express it than as a duet.”
Adding his own two cents, Prosek muses, “Violetta and I always write these dramatic sad songs and Come What May went completely the other way, soft, sincere and cute. A bit of a change, but in my opinion a completely welcome one. I got my friend Sabastian Laverde in Valencia, Spain to record the strings at his wonderful studio and the song ended up with such a warm and cozy feel to it, perfect for the beginning of winter, before we all get sick and tired of it.”
Indeed, the track does boast a cozily wintry feel, the sort of song you can nestle into and bundle up as if for protection from the increasingly chilled weather. Check it out below, and stay tuned for more from both artists.
