Sea Change, the project of Norwegian producer & singer Ellen A. W. Sunde, will release a new album called Mutual Dreaming on February 11 through Shapes Recordings. The announcement also comes with the lead single, “Night Eyes”, about which Sunde says:
“‘Night Eyes’ is about the need to shut off your head and just be your body for a while – how good it can feel to lose control. I wanted to produce a danceable sensual track, and it’s one of my personal favourites from the album. A friend of mine told me that when she heard it it felt like she was floating in rave space – an image that I absolutely love.”
A song that’s quietly but purposefully humming and thrumming throughout, “Night Eyes” is an experiential and transportive production. While it has the pulse of a rave song, the vocal and violin combo brings the ambiance of a late night alone, trying to escape the bustle of the day. Listening to “Night Eyes” feels like trying to shut out the world outside, turning inwards and finding a whole new range of pulses and beat inside; those internal mechanisms that keep us working throughout the day. In her soft-yet-powerful vocal intonations, Sunde seems to be finding a resonance with all those whirring processes, both internal and external, and ultimately comes to a point of subtle catharsis as she announces “I feel different now”.
