40th Anniversary deluxe reissue of Can’s Tago Mago set for November; full discography and ‘lost tapes’ box sets set for 2012

Can’s Tago Mago, their first proper album with iconic frontman Damo Suzuki, is one of those albums that never stops being talked about, because with every new wave of artists that comes, there is a clean Can influence on some of them, and mostly directly from this album. It’s hard to believe that it’s going to be 40 years old this year, but it’s true and in order to celebrate Spoon Records and Mute are putting out a deluxe reissue.

The package comes with the original UK artwork (seen above), a fully remastered album and a second disc of 50 minutes of remastered and previously unreleased live material from 1972. This package comes out on November 15th, check out the track list at the bottom of this post.

Maybe if you’re new to Can and this reissue of Tago Mago gives you the bug, you’ll want to buy the vinyl deluxe box set, which is set for release in early 2012. The vinyl deluxe box set comprises all 14 of Can’s studio albums, newly remastered, extensive booklets and a never-before-released live album.

Can completists thinking ‘but what’s there for me?’ may be interested to hear that a collection called The Lost Tapes is seeing release in March of next year. The release, which features unreleased studio, soundtrack and live material, was curated by Irmin Schmidt and Daniel Miller, and edited by Jono Podmore.

Looks like there’s plenty to look forward to for Can fans new and old over the coming months.
