We’re in a bit of a Radiohead news overload period at the moment, but it just keeps getting better so we’re not complaining. Consequence of Sound points out that in speaking with Rolling Stone Thom Yorke has let loose a few more little bombshells. Rolling Stone reports:
Radiohead are returning to the studio as well. They will work on new material at their recording space in Oxford, England, in December and January. “We can get things together quite rapidly at the moment,” Yorke says brightly. He mentions one song, “Come to Your Senses.” “We have this version of it. It’s a five-minute rehearsal, but it has the essence of what we need.
“There are a few of those,” he adds. “It would be fun to have them ready when we go to play next year. I don’t know how we would release them.”
You can hear Radiohead performing “Come To Your Senses” in soundcheck a few years back:
The article also reveals that the reason that Radiohead have done no extensive touring this year is because they need auxiliary drummer Clive Deamer, and he has not been available this year because of tour duties with Portishead. Radiohead do plan to tour next year though, with Thom only offering up “It will be sort of on and off, with big gaps, but not that big” as a hint of what to expect.
Yorke also talks about his other always-lingering project Atoms For Peace. He admits that he wants to get it out before the end of the year. Of the project Yorke says “It’s not good enough yet.” Before adding that he and Nigel Godrich “were excited about it for so long, then we kind of lost our way. So we’re taking some steps back.”
Godrich says of the project “The idea was to generate the music, then record the band. We did that. Some of it worked. We also went back to some of the electronic stuff. It’s still in flux. We’re waiting for the lightning bolt to strike.”
