It seems ATP and Jeff Mangum have struck up quite a healthy relationship. After having announced that the ex-Neutral Milk Hotel frontman will play at their new ‘I’ll Be Your Mirror’ festival in New Jersey in October – which was quite a coup in itself – they can now unveil that they’ve managed to get the notoriously reclusive Mangum to fly to the UK to headline one of their two December festivals at Butlins Minehead.
And the wonder doesn’t stop there. So far on the bill with Mangum is half of the Elephant 6 collective and some other legendary acts such as The Raincoats performing their debut album in full. The full list is:
JEFF MANGUM (from Neutral Milk Hotel)
SUPERCHUNK
THE OLIVIA TREMOR CONTROL
YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS
THE MAGIC BAND
THE RAINCOATS performing The Raincoats (debut LP)
A HAWK AND A HACKSAW
TINARIWEN
THE APPLES IN STEREO
With many more to be added.
If you live in the UK (or are considering flying over for it, which is perfectly rational) then early bird tickets go on sale this Friday from here.
Now about those other Mangum US dates. The first is at Jordan Hall at the New England Conservatory in Boston on September 10th and the other is the day before (September 9th) at an as-yet-unnamed 1,150 person capacity venue, most likely also in Boston. The venue for the latter will be announced next week. Tickets for the Jordan Hall show will be $35 and will go on sale through the venue’s internet and phone box office next Friday.
So how many more Jeff Mangum shows can we expect? Will he actually make it to the UK? Will there ever be a full-on Neutral Milk Hotel reunion? Only time will tell.
