There was a time, your parents will tell you, when MTV was a music video channel. Then, about the time The Real World was starting, MTV realized they could capture more viewers with non-video programming. Of course, The Real World aside, this meant mostly music-related programming and spawned the wildly successful MTV Unplugged, which of course featured classic sets from Eric Clapton, Alice In Chains, and Nirvana. VH1, MTV’s adult-contemporary brother, soon launched their own version of this intimate performance show, with VH1 Storytellers.
The idea of Storytellers was simple enough: Unplugged with more talking. Bruce Springsteen did one. So did R.E.M. And after some time off, the series will be back again this May with a rather impressive lineup. King Of Leon will kickoff the season, and later episodes will offer Death Cab For Cutie, Maxwell, Cee-Lo Green, My Morning Jacket and Ray LaMontagne. Many questions are sure to be answered: Where exactly does the soul meet the body? What the hell was up with Evil Urges? And, most importantly, how does Cee-Lo sleep at night?
