You know one of the reasons I like the song “Spiteful Intervention”? Not only does it have Kevin Barnes teetering on the edge on full breakdown when the chorus comes round, but there’s that little snippet of a song pasted in at the end. In more indulgent hands that could have been an excuse for the song to take a shift into being something else, adding a further four minutes to the track’s length. Instead it’s left there to intrigue the listener, making them wonder what could have been. Who knows, perhaps we’ll hear the little snippet fully fleshed out on a follow-up EP to Paralytic Stalks. In the meantime we’ve got a video for the original track. Behold a grossly weird mess of colours morph into various forms, all of which seem to stem for what looks like Kevin Barnes’ head, and is surely open to plenty of literal interpretation. The style is strangely reminiscent of of Montreal artwork-producing David Barnes (brother of Kevin), which should please a few Barnes enthusiasts.
