Do you have a favorite song on Mogwai’s upcoming album Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will? Mine is “Mexican Grand Prix,” a slow-burner that starts at a near boil and just keeps getting hotter. Yeah, I dig it. So, you can imagine the joy when the band debuted this Danny McConnell directed clip today.
The clip is either an editor’s worst nightmare or dream-project. If I had ever been a video editor, I could tell you. But while the task of piecing together seemingly endless footage that shifts to the beat and rhythm of the song is admirable, it is in the breaks away from the song’s structure that the clip really impresses, almost like the video is remixing the music. I know it sounds crazy, but watch for yourself. And check out the album, due on Tuesday from Sub Pop.
