Echo & the Bunnymen devotees Wax Idols are set to release their sophomore record Discipline + Desire on March 26th via Slumberland Records. The Oakland foursome combine echoing guitars, serpentine melodies, and half-buried vocals in re-imagining 80’s jangle/goth-pop, and the band comes up with something determinedly original but still very much reminiscent of the artists and sounds that they so obviously admire. In advance of Discipline + Desire‘s release, the band has just released the track “When It Happens” and comparisons to Echo & the Bunnymen and The Chameleons are inevitable, though not in terms of aping any particular genre but in how they repurpose specific tones and sounds. Listen to the track below. Also check out some of their upcoming tour dates below the stream.
