Jacaszek announces new album; download “Dare-gale” now

Michael Jacaszek is a Polish musician who creates hauntingly beautiful ambient music, which I’ve seen described in the past as “ghost radio,” which seems apt. He combines found sounds with echoing plucked instruments to create some of the most interesting and creepy soundscapes you’re likely to hear.

This December 6th he is returning with a new album called Glimmer; his first on Ghostly and first for two years. This has been the longest time he’s taken between albums, and if “Dare-gale” (available for free download below) is anything to go by then it seems he has used this extra time wisely by somehow adding another ethereal, intangible but hugely enjoyable layer to his sound.

I’ll leave it to Jacaszek himself to describe his sound and the sound of Glimmer in particular:

“All my artistic activity is based on the intuition that there is a hidden reality existing behind or beside the material world… I tried again to create some fragile beauty glimmering behind the veil of reality. I built a kind of curtain out of dirts and fuzzes, and used pure sound of clarinet and harpsichord playing beautiful melodies as a contrast to its harshness.”

Check out the album artwork for Glimmer below as well as a free download of “Dare-gale.” You can preview all 9 tracks right now on the Ghostly site.

If you’re new to Jacaszek then I’d highly recommend his 2008 album Treny, which has also been embedded in its entirety for free streaming below.
