J. Mascis to release album of Dinosaur Jr. songs reworked on synthesizer; hear the new version of “Tarpit”

If you’ve ever pondered what Dinosaur Jr. songs might sound like if they were synth-pop songs, then on April 21st, your thought process can be fully complete, as that dream will come to light. In a quite inventive way of looking back and remembering his time in Dinosaur Jr., J. Mascis will release an album that will consist of nine different Dinosaur Jr. tracks reworked, with the help of Built To Spill’s Brett Nelson, all in a synth-pop style.

Come April 21st (which is also Record Store Day), a limited edition (of 500) purple vinyl of the album will be released, with a standard release to follow, in less prominently purple formats (CD, Digital, standard black vinyl). Oh, and the project is called The Electronic Anthology Project, and their album is entitled The Electronic Anthology Project of Dinosaur Jr.. Check out the tracklisting below.

Over at Pitchfork you can check out the new version of the track “Tarpit,” which originally featured on their 1987 album You’re Living All Over Me.
