Delta Spirit + Dawes + Deer Tick = Middle Brother

By ; December 7, 2010 at 10:50 PM

A trend of indie supergroups seems to be striking, with Mister Heavenly and The Babies recently announcing early 2011 albums and now Middle Brother, a combination of the songwriters from Deer Tick, Dawes and Delta Spirit, is set to headline a West Hollywood benefit concert on December 20th, as well as release their first album in March. Some of you may recall this project debuting at SXSW earlier in the year, but perhaps the success of Delta Spirit this year detracted from the timeline for them to follow up that festival performance.

Their first album will be distributed by Partisan Records on March 1st of 2011, nearly a year after their first appearance and we’re hoping it was worth the wait. The self-titled affair was recorded in a workshop like experience, with John J McCauley III (Deer Tick), Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), and Matt Vasquez (Delta Spirit) pursuing the traditional, seventies guitar rock that their alpha-bands seek to revive, with comparisons in style being made to the work of Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, and Tom Petty.

The show at the Troubadour on December 20th will benefit Invisible Children (that is the name of the organization, not the band being smart-asses)  and will also include Cass McCombs, Mountain Man and McCauley performing a solo Deer Tick acoustic set. Get more information on the charity here and we’ll have more information about this new band as it becomes available.
