Win tickets to see Friend Roulette with Xenia Rubinos and Blanche Blanche Blanche at Brooklyn’s Union Pool

By Joshua Pickard; August 23, 2013 at 11:59 AM

Venerable Brooklyn venue Union Pool will be hosting psych pop band Friend Roulette (Goodnight Records) with special guests Xenia Rubinos (Ba Da Bing!) and Blanche Blanche Blanche (NNA Tapes) on September 5th. This triumvirate of indie rock and pop has been brought together by Move Forward Music, and Beats Per Minute is pleased to partner with them to offer a pair of tickets to this show. But contrary to what The Kingsmen say, the best things in life are not free, at least not anymore. And so these tickets require a small bit of effort on your part.

Just head over to Twitter and retweet the link to this giveaway. The first 10 people to retweet this link will be put into a small fish bowl or box of some sort, and the winner will be randomly picked form the entries.  The winner will receive a ticket to the show and a +1 for anyone of their choice.  The contest will run until we see the first 10 retweets. Follow us at @bpmny and Move Forward Music at @mfmusic.

And while you’re at it, you may as well follow Friend Roulette (@FriendRoulettez) and Xenia Rubinos (@xeniarubinos) while you’re twittering away. Listen to a few songs from the bands below.

Friend Roulette – “Rocket Dog”

Xenia Rubinos – “Cherry Tree”

ATP releases official mixtape, shares details of Instagram scavenger hunt

By Joshua Pickard; September 12, 2012 at 9:00 PM

Leading up to the Afghan Whigs-curated ATP festival in New York City, festival organizers have compiled a free mixtape featuring artists set to take the stage at Pier 36 from September 21-23.  The mixtape includes artists such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Thee Oh Sees, Braids, and Phillip Glass + Tyondai Braxton.  Stream or download the mixtape here or listen below.

Also of note is the fact that there will be an Instagram Scavenger Hunt which includes a prize pack featuring a special package of tickets to the multi-day festival, three nights accommodation at the Ace Hotel, Greg Dulli curated books, and a selection of Criterion Collection Blu-rays and DVD’s.

According to the ATP official website:

This Friday the 14th of September we will be announcing the films and books chosen by Greg Dulli as part of his curation of the festival. Two of the books will be discussed at the festival (hosted by Lapham’s Quarterly), and the films will be shown in a cinema at the festival alongside other programming by The Criterion Collection and ATP.

For the scavenger hunt, ATP has left copies of some of the books and films featured at the event at various shops and businesses around New York City. Clues about book locations can be found below. Once you’ve worked out the location of a specific book, ask inside the business to see if your guess is correct. Be the first to Instagram a photo of the book or film to ATP at @atpfestival with #ATPNYC and the shop name, and then keep that item as a prize.

The person that is the first to send in a photo, announcing a film or book as part of the line-up enters into a drawing to win 2 tickets to ATP, a room at The Ace Hotel for the 3 nights of the event and a bumper pack of books and Criterion films in the festival.

Clues as to the whereabouts of where we have placed a book or film are below.

1) Oscar the LP
2) Where a lighthouse might store its clothes
3) There are six in this clue
4) Flour, sugar, eggs and butter for sale
5) Tito’s Scottish cousin
6) Motorhead digs at this hotel
7) This gallery is so delusional

Giveaway: Win PAPA’s A Good Woman Is Hard To Find on limited edition vinyl

By Rob Hakimian; January 3, 2012 at 5:52 PM

We’ve been pushing A Good Woman Is Hard To Find, the debut EP from PAPA, for a little while now. We gave it a pretty darn favourable review, and we placed it at number 5 in our top EPs of 2011. So now you should be chomping at the bit to have a chance to get a copy of it on vinyl, especially when only 500 copies have been pressed.

It’s extremely simple to win too. All you have to do is merely retweet this tweet to be entered. Retweets can either be new style, or old style “RT” retweets, but if you opt for the latter make sure to leave all of the @mentions in it.

And voila, you are entered with a chance to win this very fine EP. If you’re not on Twitter then we would hazard to say that it is worth signing up for it just to give yourself a chance to win this EP. Otherwise, find a friend, family member or random stranger who can retweet for you.

If you haven’t gotten around to listening to A Good Woman Is Hard To Find yet, or need a reminder of just how good it is, then stream it in full below.
