Bjork announces new project Biophilia, possible album

Icelandic avant-garde pop legend Björk is an artist that people with tastes in all different genres of music are always excited to hear from. Since her last studio album Volta she has had a couple of projects but no complete albums.

Today it has been announced that Björk will be in residence for six nights at Manchester’s 1800 capacity Campfield Market Hall (England). Dazed reports that she will be “performing new tracks from the forthcoming Biophilia studio album.”

Even more intensely interesting is the description of the live show, which Dazed says features “a range of specially conceived and crafted instruments, among them a bespoke digitally-controlled pipe organ; a 30 foot pendulum that harnesses the earth’s gravitational pull to create musical patterns – creating a unique bridge between the ancient and the modern; a bespoke gamelan-celeste hybrid; and a one-off extraordinary pin barrel harp.”

And if all of those instruments are also to appear in the final studio version of Biophilia then it could be her most ambitious album to date.

If you don’t live near Manchester then don’t fret, the project will also be hitting several major cities around the world.
