2nd posthumous Amy Winehouse collection coming

Whenever an artist passes away, music fans know it’s only a matter of time before their label begins to unleash unreleased recordings. The posthumous album can so easily be a temptation for number crunchers, an easy check; just ask Michael Jackson or nearly any fallen idol. That said, it can also be something genuine, a last offering for loyal fans, if handled earnestly.

Amy Winehouse’s first LP following her death, Lioness: Hidden Treasures, while far from perfect, was much more akin to the latter possibility. Hence, the revelation that a 2nd offering will indeed be released is both enticing and worrisome. Winehouse’s father, Mitch, explains:

“I’m not sure that there is much more, but I’m sure that we will get at least one other album out, if not two. There are loads of covers, loads of them, but the problem is we don’t want want to rip anybody off. When her fans are so precious to us we don’t want to put out dross.”

Will they manage to gather another worthy batch of songs, or will this go round see a lame batch of half-baked covers? Hopefully they have another Nas collab saved up. We can only wait, hope, and worry.
