Video Premiere: This Frontier Needs Heroes – “It’s Over Now” (live)

This Frontier Needs Heroes - Hooky

Alternative folk duo and brother-sister combo This Frontier Needs Heroes (aka Brad and Jessica Lauretti) don’t let a small thing like distance get between them and their music — more specifically, the distance between Brooklyn, NY and Jacksonville, FL (roughly 1,000 miles).  After releasing two albums of graceful, stripped down folk, Brad moved down to Florida to work at a local music venue, while Jessica stayed in Brooklyn to focus on various film/video projects.  But by sending /transferring files and tracks back and forth they able to compile and create the songs that would form the basis of their latest record, Hooky, which is due out on August 27th.  They also brought in a handful of supporting musicians this time, drawing in artists from bands like O’Death, The Blank Tapes, and Golden Boots to sit in on the scattered sessions.

For the band’s video for “It’s Over Now,” shot near a lake in Maryland, directors Dave Heumann and Sadie Frederick chose to record the band live, allowing the pastoral beauty of their surroundings to accentuate Brad’s gently plucked acoustic guitar and the interwoven vocal harmonies between himself and Jessica.  Dropping the sitar found on the album cut, this version showcases the purely reflexive ease with which the Lauretti siblings blend their casual musical camaraderie.  Cutting between the duo’s performance of the song and shots of gorgeous natural vistas, the video provides a fitting background for the deceptively simple song.  If there was ever a fitting song to hear as you spend time traipsing through nature, then “It’s Over Now” is it.

Beats Per Minute is pleased to premiere the video for “It’s Over Now,” from This Frontier Needs Heroes’ upcoming album, Hooky.
