Video Premiere: The Slasher Film Festival Strategy – “Thermal Event”

The Slasher Film Festival Strategy - Thermal Event

With over 20 releases under his belt in as many years, South Carolinian Christopher Ashley has made a habit of never resting for too long in any one spot—or band. Having paid his dues in bands like Murder Weapon, Index For Potential Suicide, The Disease, and Avenging Disco Godfathers of Soul (among others), Ashley now finds himself releasing music as The Slasher Film Festival Strategy. Incorporating aspects of drone, hardcore, and electronic experimentation, he creates vast, dynamic landscapes of dark ambience that ride upon corresponding waves of industrial noise.

For his latest record, “Crimson Throne,” due out July 30th via Foreign Sounds, Ashley created a fictional narrative concerning a late 80’s attempt by NASA to terraform Mars. Having lost contact with the crew 18 days after touching down on the planet’s surface, Crimson Throne is their story. He recently released the video for “Thermal Event,” which is taken from the record, and it continues along in the same 80’s sci-fi vibe. The video follows a woman who is in the process of being integrated into what she sees on her television. We watch as primitive geometric patterns and crude CGI images are interspersed throughout the video, and these effects act as the doorway into the blooming, minimalist industrial landscape. Layers of dark synths and skittering beats spread out across the track, which seems to be the ideal midnight soundtrack to the ill-advised actions of some shadowy, sleep-deprived castaway of the night.

Beats Per Minute is pleased to premiere the video for “Thermal Event,” from The Slasher Film Festival Strategy’s upcoming album.
